How To Record After School Snacks
The Point of Sale program provides for the ability to record snacks served in the After School Snack Program. You may want to check with your region food service people to determine the procedures that your district may or must use for the recording and reporting of the snacks served at your district. You may refer to this fact sheet from the USDA on some of the features and eligibility requirements of this program.
The POS system provides for two methods of recording snacks served if you record snacks on days other than served. Some districts may record snacks the same day they are served and others may record the serving of snacks on a subsequent day. If you record snacks on the same day as served then you will record them as you would Breakfast or Lunch. In many districts the cafeteria is closed by the time that after school snacks are served. This will dictate that the snacks are recorded the next day or in some cases even every week or month. These two methods are somewhat different so both are covered in separate tutorials in sub tabs to this page.
We will also note that a snack menu item must be set up at each campus that serves after school snacks. The snack menu item will be set up the same as any other meal such as breakfast or lunch. When setting up the menu items simply select A when the program asks for the meal type. The selection will be A=After School Snacks. You may view a tutorial on how to set up menu items by clicking here. Note that the process of setting up, adding or changing menu items is normally a back office function.
Be sure to select A as the meal type when proceeding to the meal input screen to record the serving of snacks when using the meal input screen method where each student must be identified.
