Change The Grace Period Granted For Applications
SD has a provision which allows the students to be fed at the previous school year status to allow families time to submit a current school year application. TDA allows districts to use this graced benefit for less than or equal to 30 schools days. During this time the Denied Application Grace Period is normally set to zero days so that a change in benefit occurs immediately. After the grace expiration this is changed to 10 days since all application changes at this point are resubmissions of a current year application and if a reduction of benefits is determined a family is allowed a 10 day appeal period before the reduced benefit goes into affect.
The Application Audit Verification period may begin before the graced period is terminated. It is important when processing any returned information for an application selected for Audit Verification that the Denied Application Grace Period be set to 10 days since any negative result (Free to Reduced or Paid, or Reduced to Paid) is entitled to the 10 day appeal period. Once your district has expired the students in the 30 day grace period it is no longer necessary to switch between zero and 10 days for the APPL DENY GRACE and it should be left with the value of 10.
SD recommends that when you going to process these Applications Selected for Audit that everyone stay out of the Application Process
The user may now go into Lunch Application Maintenance [LA-01] and record the necessary changes including recording the verification results in field 30 [VERIFY CODE], remembering to update subfields 01, 04 and 05. If a negative result was issued, then place a Y besides the appropriate reason for fields 06 thru 10.
After all the Audit Verification Results have been recorded the grace days needs to be changed back to zero.
